Arcola Architectural Tours

Dates: 04/15/2012 - 10/15/2012
Many small towns surprise homeowners with the variety and number of architectural house examples from the past. Arcola, like so many other Midwestern towns, embraced the creative developments of American house architecture, taking many of their cues from Eastern contractors and architects.

Fortunately the community still retains many examples of more than a century of American house architectural changes, ranging from Gothic Revival to the Craftsman houses.

The GUIDED walking tour provides:
  • Wonderful, real life examples of American house architecture for the past 100 years
  • Specific house styles
  • Architectural structures that are identified and defined
  • Examples of turn-of-the-century small town storefronts
  • Outstanding example of a historic Carnegie library
  • Example of early 1900 stained-glass church windows
  • Outdoor walking exercise
